Prometheus Cave's underground river
Highlights
- Stalactites grown over thousands of years
- An underground river still flowing
- Prometheus Cave's largest chamber
- A cool session on a hot day
- Imereti's limestone geology explained
About this tour
This session follows Prometheus Cave, a limestone system outside Kutaisi with an underground river still running through it. You see the largest illuminated chamber and its slow-grown stalactites, then the river section itself. It is a cool, steady session built around geology rather than history.
We move gradually from chamber to chamber, giving the formations time to read in the light, then reach the river toward the end. I explain how the cave formed as we go and take questions once we are near the water.
It suits anyone curious about geology or looking for a cooler session on a hot Imereti day, and it pairs well with Sataplia's caves and footprints nearby.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
