Textiles, tools and a costume collection

- Traditional textiles, explained in detail
- A Venetian mansion turned museum
- Stitching and dye most visitors miss
- Museum highlights from the courtyard
About this tour
This session gives you the highlights of the Historical and Folklore Museum from its entrance and courtyard, described by someone who trained as a conservator on its own collection. You hear about the traditional textiles, tools and costumes held inside a converted Venetian mansion. It stays outside the museum throughout.
I describe the rooms in sequence from memory, pausing on details like stitching and dye that most visitors would miss, and take questions as they arise. The pace stays careful and specific.
This suits anyone planning a museum visit who wants expert context first. It also works for viewers interested in textiles and traditional craft generally.

Itinerary

Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rethymno before heading out.
-
Historical and Folklore Museum entrance 15 min
From the steps I describe the traditional textiles and costumes inside, since filming stays outside, drawing on my own training as a conservator here.
-
Old Venetian mansion courtyard 15 min
The camera lingers on the mansion's courtyard, and I explain how the building itself became part of the collection alongside the objects inside.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Rethymno: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dakos and Harbour district, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
