About this tour

This walk covers Socratous Street, the main market street of the Old Town, from its spice stalls to a small ceramics workshop further along. Foteini shows the range of dried herbs and spices sold loose by weight before explaining the Ottoman era patterns still used in some of the local ceramics. The camera stays close to the stalls and shopfronts throughout.

Foteini checks her connection at the first stall before moving slowly along the street, stopping at shops that show the market's range best. She answers questions about the spices and ceramics as she goes. A short list of what was seen follows the call.

This suits travellers interested in local crafts and food culture who want to see the market before buying anything themselves. It also works well as an easy morning session in the Old Town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rhodes before heading out.

  2. The spice stalls 15 min

Foteini walks past stalls piled with dried herbs and spices along Socratous Street, the camera catching the colours of oregano, sumac and dried peppers sold loose.

  3. A ceramics workshop 15 min

Further along, a small workshop displays hand painted plates and bowls, and Foteini explains how some of the patterns still used today trace back to Ottoman era designs.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Rhodes: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Stuffed courgette flowers and New Town (Neo Chora), worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
