Via Veneto, the street of La Dolce Vita
Highlights
- A famous street, seen as it is today
- One of the few original cafe facades left
- A family story from a waiter who was there
- Past glamour compared with an ordinary present
- Twentieth-century Rome, not the ancient centre
About this tour
This session walks Via Veneto, once known worldwide for a glamorous period my own grandfather witnessed firsthand as a waiter on the street. You see one of the few original cafe facades still standing and the street as it actually looks today. It compares a famous past with an ordinary present rather than only romanticising the former.
I walk at an easy pace, pointing out what survives from the street's famous period and what has changed since, taking questions throughout. I send a short note afterwards with a few of my grandfather's own stories.
This suits anyone curious about a specific slice of twentieth-century Rome. It also works well as a change of pace from the ancient centre.

Good to know

- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
