About this tour
This session follows the old town from the Plönlein up onto the wall walk and out to the Kobolzeller Tor above the Tauber valley. You see the well-known fork of half-timbered houses at the Plönlein before the route climbs onto the walls themselves. From the gate the camera settles on the drop into the wooded valley, where the walls trace the curve of the hillside rather than run straight.
We open with a short sound check on the square before the walk begins. I move at an easy pace along the walls and stop wherever a question comes up, whether about the stonework or the view below. Afterwards I send a short note on the gate names and a rough map of the stretch we covered.
This suits anyone who wants a first proper look at how the old town's defences actually work rather than just a photo of the Plönlein. It also works well as a gentle opener before a longer session inside the museums.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rothenburg ob der Tauber before heading out.
-
Plönlein 17 min
You see the fork where two half-timbered houses meet above a fountain, one of the most photographed corners in the old town, and I point out how the roofline hides a working well beneath the cobbles.
-
Kobolzeller Tor 17 min
The wall walk leads to this old fortified gate above the valley road, and I show you the timber gallery built into its upper floor, one of several still intact along the circuit.
-
View over the Tauber valley 17 min
From a gap in the ramparts you look straight down into the wooded valley, and I explain why the walls follow the curve of the hillside rather than run in a straight line.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Rothenburg ob der Tauber: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Schneeballen (fried pastry balls dusted with sugar) and Herrngasse, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
