About this tour
This session moves through three of the old town's churches, from the carved Holy Blood altar at St. Jakob's to the plainer Franziskanerkirche and the fortified St. Wolfgang's built into the wall itself. You see Tilman Riemenschneider's carving up close, including the small crystal capsule set into the altar. The route ends at a church that doubled as part of the town's defences, its thick walls built for more than worship.
We begin inside St. Jakob's with a brief sound check, since the stone interior carries an echo. I linger longest at the altar and move more quickly between the other two churches, leaving time for questions about the carving throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the dates and the artists involved.
This suits anyone interested in Gothic woodcarving or the town's religious history beyond the market square. It also works for a quieter, indoor session on a wet afternoon.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rothenburg ob der Tauber before heading out.
-
St. Jakob's Holy Blood altar 21 min
Inside the church the camera moves close on the carved altar, and I point out the rock crystal capsule at its centre that gives the altar its name.
-
Franziskanerkirche interior 21 min
We step into the plainer Franciscan church nearby, and I show you the worn stone floor and the simpler carving style that came before Riemenschneider's workshop.
-
St. Wolfgang's fortified church 21 min
The route ends at a church built directly into the town wall, and I explain how its thick walls doubled as a defence post in times of siege.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Rothenburg ob der Tauber: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart) and Judengasse, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
