Golden Cape, an Austrian baron's forest by the sea
Highlights
- A forest planted deliberately, not grown wild
- Exotic species imported by a nineteenth century baron
- Woodland giving way to open rock in a few steps
- A private estate turned into a public park
- Rovinj's coast, seen from inside a forest
About this tour
This session runs the length of Golden Cape Forest Park, from its planted entrance to the rocky, open coast at its tip. You see a deliberately designed forest of imported species and then the sudden shift to bare rock and open water. It stays within the park boundary throughout.
I keep a steady running pace between the three stops, slow down at the exotic tree section to explain the history properly, and take questions at each stop rather than while moving.
This suits anyone who enjoys a longer nature session with a clear historical thread running through it. It also suits early risers who prefer the park before it gets busy.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rovinj before heading out.
-
Golden Cape Entrance 21 min
You see the forest begin almost immediately south of the old town, and I explain how this whole peninsula was planted deliberately rather than growing wild.
-
The Exotic Tree Section 21 min
The camera passes a stretch of unusual species for this coast, and I describe how an Austrian baron imported them here in the nineteenth century as part of his private estate.
-
Rocky Coast at the Tip 21 min
We finish where the forest opens onto bare rock at the peninsula's tip, and I point out how the coastline changes from sheltered woodland to open sea within a few steps.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Rovinj: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Teran wine and The Harbour, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
