Casa de las Conchas to the Clerecía towers
Highlights
- Hundreds of carved stone shells
- A courtyard behind a busy facade
- Ironwork among the city's finest
- Twin towers on soft ground
- Restoration explained by a restorer
About this tour
This session moves from Casa de las Conchas, its facade covered in carved stone shells, to the twin Baroque towers of the Clerecía nearby. You see the building's quieter Gothic-Mudéjar courtyard and the fine ironwork window grilles inside its entrance. I explain restoration work I was personally involved in on this exact facade years ago.
We move slowly at each stop, since the carved and ironwork detail rewards a much closer look than a typical walking pace allows. I explain construction techniques at the Clerecía that let its towers reach such height. Questions about restoration and conservation come up more in my sessions than in most others, given my own background.
This suits anyone interested in architectural detail and conservation as much as the buildings themselves. It also works well as a longer session covering two of the old town's most distinctive landmarks.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Salamanca before heading out.
-
Casa de las Conchas facade 17 min
Hundreds of carved stone scallop shells cover the building's facade, a symbol linked to the Order of Santiago. I explain the restoration work I was personally involved in years ago on this exact wall.
-
The courtyard within 17 min
Through the entrance you can see the building's Gothic-Mudéjar courtyard, a quieter contrast to the busy shell-covered exterior. I point out the ironwork window grilles, among the finest surviving examples in the city.
-
Clerecía towers 17 min
The twin Baroque towers rise above the university quarter, visible from most of the old town. I explain the construction techniques that let such tall towers stand on relatively soft ground below.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Salamanca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Hornazo and Barrio Universitario, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
