Mozart's birthplace, a house behind a famous name
Highlights
- A birthplace far more modest than its reputation
- A yellow facade on a busy shopping street
- A quieter courtyard window round the back
- Where a family lived before fame changed everything
- One building, not a general composer biography
About this tour
This session covers the house on Getreidegasse where Mozart was born, a building far more modest from outside than its worldwide reputation suggests. You see the yellow facade from the street and then a quieter courtyard window at the back, away from the crowds out front. It is a short session built around one specific building rather than the composer's wider life story.
I stay close to the building throughout, explaining the family's time living there and how the house survived while much of the surrounding street changed. Questions come in on Mozart's early years, and I answer them as we go. A short note on the museum inside follows for anyone planning a visit.
This suits anyone with a genuine interest in Mozart's life beyond the gift shops built around his name. It also works well as a short add-on to a longer old town session.

Itinerary

Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Salzburg before heading out.
-
Birthplace Facade 15 min
You see the yellow house on Getreidegasse where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756, unremarkable from outside compared with its reputation.
-
Courtyard Window 15 min
The camera turns to a courtyard window at the back of the building, a quieter angle most visitors never see from the busy street in front.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Salzburg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Mozartkugel and Altstadt, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
