Red Beach: cliffs of volcanic rock
Highlights
- Deep red and black volcanic layers
- A beach named for its iron rich rock
- Cliffs eroded over centuries into colour
- A rough path down to the shore
- Volcanic geology explained at sea level
About this tour
This short session covers Red Beach, named for the volcanic cliffs of deep red and black rock that surround it. Nikiforos shows the path down to the water before explaining how the colour comes from iron in the rock eroding over a very long time. The camera takes in the cliffs from both above and at sea level.
Nikiforos checks his connection at the top of the path before the walk down, keeping the phone steady over the looser stones. He answers questions about the geology as he reaches the shore. A short list of facts about the rock formation follows by message.
This suits travellers interested in geology or unusual landscapes who want the explanation behind a well known photo spot. It also works well as a short add-on to a longer day near Akrotiri.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
