About this tour

This session follows Segovia's medieval walls from Puerta de San Andrés to Puerta de Santiago, taking in a long, largely intact stretch of wall in between. You see how the defences follow the natural shape of the rock rather than a planned straight line, and spot where later repairs and additions are visible. It is a walking session built entirely around the city's defensive perimeter.

We move at a steady pace along the walls, pausing at each gate long enough to explain its specific history and construction. I point out differences in stonework that mark repairs from different periods as we go. Questions about the walls' original extent come up regularly, since a fair amount has been lost over time.

This suits anyone interested in medieval fortification and how a city's defences shaped its growth. It also works well as a longer session for viewers who want to properly circle the old town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Segovia before heading out.

  2. Puerta de San Andrés 17 min

One of the surviving medieval gates still controls entry to the old Jewish quarter behind it. I point out the differences between the original stonework and later repairs made after damage over the centuries.

  3. A quiet stretch of wall 17 min

Between the gates, long stretches of wall remain largely intact, running along the edge of the rock the old town sits on. I explain how the walls follow the natural defences of the terrain rather than a straight, planned line.

  4. Puerta de Santiago 17 min

The walk finishes at another surviving gate, smaller and less visited than the main entrances. I show you where the wall's construction changes noticeably, likely marking a later addition to the original circuit.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Segovia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Torreznos and Casco Antiguo, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
