A museum, a statue, a changed century
Highlights
- A museum connected to a famous native
- Exhibits, not just the familiar story
- A statue, and what grew around it
- The square's more recent additions
- Quiet history beside a grand square
About this tour
This session pairs a small, specific museum with the city's largest public space. You see the memorial museum connected to Skopje's most famous native, then the large statue and fountains at the centre of Macedonia Square. It moves from something quiet and personal to something deliberately grand.
I keep the museum stop focused on its actual exhibits rather than repeating the broader story, then explain the square's more recent additions once we arrive there. Questions about either are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants Skopje's recent history explained beyond the postcard version. It also suits anyone curious about how the main square reached its current, grander form.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Skopje before heading out.
-
Mother Teresa Memorial House 21 min
You see a museum built on the site connected to the city's most well-known native, and I explain what the exhibits inside actually cover rather than repeating the wider story most people already know.
-
Macedonia Square Statue 21 min
The camera reaches the large equestrian statue at the centre of Macedonia Square, and I point out the fountains and surrounding buildings added in the years since it was placed there.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Skopje: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Skara (grilled meats) and Karpoš, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Skopje time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
