Banya Bashi Mosque and the central market
Highlights
- A mosque in continuous use since the 1500s
- Ottoman and later architecture, side by side
- Sofia's central market hall
- Centuries of change, one street
- A quick look at Ottoman Sofia
About this tour
This session walks the stretch around Banya Bashi Mosque and Sofia's central market hall. You see the sixteenth-century mosque, still in continuous use, then the market hall next door, where Ottoman and later architecture sit side by side. The session stays within this compact stretch of the centre.
We open with a short sound check outside the mosque. I keep a brief, practical pace and take questions as they come. Afterwards I send a short note on the buildings' different periods.
This suits anyone wanting a glimpse of Sofia's Ottoman-era history. It also works well paired with the market food session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
