About this tour

This session goes through the back streets of Varoš and Lučac, away from the main palace route through Split. The camera moves from the Prokurative and the theatre square into the stone courtyards of Varoš, then on to a small parish church in Lučac and a family-run bar at the end. It is built around neighbourhoods most visitors pass without stopping in.

After a sound check, the walk moves street by street through the two neighbourhoods, with the guide answering questions about the old Split dialect and local habits as they come up. A short glossary of dialect words used on the walk follows once the call ends.

This suits anyone who has already seen the palace and wants Split beyond it, or anyone drawn to how a city sounds and speaks rather than just how it looks. It also suits someone curious about the local dialect and how different it is from standard Croatian.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 9 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Split before heading out.

  2. Theatre square and the Prokurative 19 min

The camera opens on the Prokurative, the arcaded square built in a Venetian style facing the theatre, and the guide explains how the square is actually used today.

  3. Varoš courtyards 19 min

Ducking into Varoš, the camera looks into small stone courtyards behind the street fronts, the kind visitors usually walk straight past without knowing they are there.

  4. Lučac parish church 19 min

In Lučac, the camera reaches a small parish church at the centre of a neighbourhood that still runs at its own pace, away from the palace crowds.

  5. A family bar in Lučac 19 min

At a family-run bar, the guide pours a glass of prošek to explain the sweet wine on camera, and talks through the old Split dialect still spoken at tables like this one.

  6. Your questions 17 min

Time to ask anything about Split: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dalmatian pršut and Diocletian's Palace, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
