Place Kléber and the Neustadt boulevards
Highlights
- Place Kléber's statue and its odd history
- Wide planned avenues of the Neustadt
- German imperial-era front gardens
- A planning style unlike the old town
- An hour of 19th-century Strasbourg
About this tour
This walk focuses on the Neustadt, the 19th-century district built when Strasbourg was part of the German Empire. Starting at Place Kléber, you move onto Avenue de la Marseillaise to see the wide, planned streets up close. Thomas explains what makes the planning style so different from the medieval core nearby.
The session opens with a brief sound check on the square, then follows the avenue at a relaxed pace. Thomas answers questions live and points the camera at whatever detail prompted them. He sends a short list of the stops by message once the call ends.
It suits anyone curious about 19th-century urban planning or Strasbourg's German period specifically. It also pairs well with a separate old town session for contrast.

-
Place Kléber 21 min
The camera pans across the square's uniform 18th-century façades. I point out the general's statue and explain the odd story of where his remains eventually ended up.
-
Avenue de la Marseillaise 21 min
You see one of the Neustadt's widest avenues, its buildings set back behind small front gardens. I explain why German planners designed the streets this way, unlike the tighter old town.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Strasbourg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kougelhopf and Petite France, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
