About this tour

This walk follows the canals of Petite France as the light turns gold in late afternoon. You move from the tanners' quay to the narrow houses of Rue du Bain aux Plantes and finish at the towers of the Ponts Couverts. Élise points out the working details left over from the tanning trade that most visitors walk straight past.

After a quick sound check on the quay, the walk follows the canal at an easy pace, stopping wherever the light is best. Élise takes questions throughout rather than saving them, since the district changes character every few steps. A short list of the stops follows by message once the call ends.

It suits anyone who prefers slow, visual sessions over a packed itinerary. It also works well for anyone wanting good light and detail before a first visit.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Strasbourg before heading out.

  2. Quai de la Petite France 17 min

The camera follows the canal edge, half-timbered tanners' houses leaning slightly over the water. I point out the wide, low windows once used to dry hides, still visible on several façades.

  3. Rue du Bain aux Plantes 17 min

You see the narrowest, oldest houses on the street, packed close together with steep roofs. I explain why the district kept its tanners' name long after the trade left.

  4. Ponts Couverts towers 17 min

From the towpath the camera looks back at the three medieval towers guarding the old bridges. I show how the canal splits here into separate channels, once used to control flooding.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Strasbourg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Flammekueche and Neustadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
