About this tour

This session shows a working market morning on Rother Street, one of the oldest trading squares in the town, before the tourist crowds arrive later in the day. The camera moves stall to stall as traders set out local produce, and pauses at the Victorian fountain on the corner of the square. It is a working-town view rather than a shopfront tour.

We start early with the stalls still being set up, then move along the row at the pace the traders are working at, stopping wherever something catches your eye. I take live questions about what is being sold and where it comes from. Afterwards I send a short note on the market's usual opening days.

It suits early risers and anyone curious about the town's daily life outside the theatre district. It also works well as a short add-on before a longer history session later the same day.

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Stratford-upon-Avon before heading out.

  2. Rother Street stalls 15 min

The camera moves along the stalls as traders set up on the square that has held a market since a royal charter in the 13th century, and I point out which pitches sell produce grown within the county.

  3. American Fountain corner 15 min

At the edge of the square you see the ornate Victorian drinking fountain donated by an American visitor, and I explain why it stands exactly where the old livestock market used to close.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Stratford-upon-Avon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Steak and ale pie and Waterside, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
