Freedom Square and the flag on Pikk Hermann
Highlights
- A square redesigned in the 2000s
- A tower flying the national flag daily
- A ritual tied to Estonian identity
- Modern commemoration, explained plainly
- A short walk between two symbols
About this tour
This session walks from the open modern Freedom Square to Pikk Hermann tower, where the national flag flies each day. You see what the square commemorates and how it was reshaped in the 2000s, then the tower and the daily ritual tied to its flag. It is a short session pairing modern commemoration with an older symbol.
I open with a sound check at the square, then walk toward the tower, answering questions as we go. A short note on the flag-raising ritual follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in national symbols or modern public space design. It also pairs well with a Toompea castle session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
