Amuri, a worker's block preserved whole
Highlights
- A worker's housing block, preserved whole
- Courtyards that once organised daily life
- A single flat, described from memory
- The human side of the mill's history
- Nineteenth-century housing, still standing
About this tour
This session walks Amuri, a full block of nineteenth-century wooden housing built for Finlayson's mill workers and preserved rather than demolished. You see the shared courtyards that once organised daily life for dozens of families. I describe one preserved flat's interior from memory, since the camera stays outside.
We move around the block slowly, since the courtyards and small details reward a careful look. I take questions on how workers actually lived here, drawing on the same industrial history I cover at Finlayson itself. The session ends at the quietest corner of the block.
This suits anyone who enjoyed the Finlayson session and wants the human side of the same industry. It also works for viewers interested in social history rather than just architecture.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Tampere before heading out.
-
The wooden courtyard block 15 min
You see a full block of nineteenth-century wooden housing, once home to Finlayson's own mill workers. I explain how the shared courtyards actually functioned for the families living around them.
-
A single preserved flat's exterior 15 min
The camera stops at one flat kept exactly as it stood in daily use, and I describe from memory what the rooms inside look like, since the camera cannot follow me indoors.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Tampere: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cinnamon buns (korvapuusti) and Pyynikki, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
