About this tour

This session opens inside the Binnenhof courtyard before the working day begins, then moves round to the Hofvijver for the mirrored view of the same buildings. You see the Gothic Ridderzaal at its centre and hear how the King still opens parliament there each year. It is a quiet, early look at a seat of government most visitors only glimpse from a queue.

We start with a short sound check on the empty courtyard, since it fills with staff soon after nine. I hold the frame on the water for longer than most stops get, since the reflection is the whole point of coming this early. A short list of the buildings and their dates follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone who likes an early, uncrowded look at a working government building rather than a queue in the afternoon. It also pairs well with a later call to Scheveningen for a fuller picture of the city.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of The Hague before heading out.

  2. Binnenhof courtyard 21 min

The camera opens on the inner courtyard of the Binnenhof before the offices open, and I explain how a working parliament still sits inside walls first built in the 13th century.

  3. Hofvijver 21 min

We move round to the Hofvijver, and on a still morning you see the government buildings mirrored in the water, a view I point the phone at for longer than feels necessary because it rarely lasts.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about The Hague: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Stroopwafel and Zeeheldenkwartier, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
