About this tour

This session traces the old civic core of the city from its Renaissance city hall to the Grote Kerk a short walk away. You see how a centuries-old square sits directly against a modern shopping street, and hear how each building fits into the city's older layout. It moves at a steady pace across three close stops.

We start at the city hall and move slowly, since the facades reward a longer look than a quick pass. I explain each building's age and use before moving on, and take questions between stops rather than only at the end. A short timeline of the buildings follows by message.

It suits anyone interested in how an old civic centre survives inside a modern city. It also works as a calm, daytime counterpart to a later evening session on the Grote Markt.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of The Hague before heading out.

  2. Oude Stadhuis facade 17 min

The camera holds on the Renaissance facade of the old city hall, and I explain how it predates the grander government buildings a few streets away.

  3. Nearby square 17 min

In the square beside it, you see how the old civic centre sits against a modern shopping street, and I point out where the two eras meet.

  4. Grote Kerk exterior 17 min

We finish at the Grote Kerk, and I explain its role as the city's oldest church, still standing beside buildings centuries younger.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about The Hague: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Poffertjes and Zeeheldenkwartier, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
