Ano Poli's Byzantine walls
Highlights
- Byzantine walls that once ringed the city
- Houses built right against old stone
- Centuries of rebuilding, read in the wall
- A steep climb through the upper town
- A local's own daily route
About this tour
This session climbs through Ano Poli, the upper town, following the surviving Byzantine walls from a lower gate to their highest stretch near the old fortress. You see the narrow lanes built against the wall and the different periods of rebuilding visible in the stonework. It stays within this one climb through the upper town.
I move slowly, since the streets are steep and I grew up walking them myself. Live questions about the walls and the neighbourhood come up throughout, and I send a short note on what we saw afterward.
This suits anyone who wants the old fortifications explained by someone who lives right against them. It also works well paired with the Eptapyrgio session for the fuller climb.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
