The mosque and the clock tower beside it
Highlights
- Painted frescoes that survived decades
- A tower once taller than anything else
- Two Ottoman buildings, side by side
- One corner of the main square, explained
- History behind a view most people miss
About this tour
This session pairs two Ottoman-era buildings standing beside each other on the main square. You see the mosque's painted portico, then the clock tower right next to it. It stays on this one corner of Skanderbeg Square throughout.
I explain the mosque's frescoes first, since their survival through a difficult period usually surprises people, then move to the clock tower's original role in the city. Questions about either building are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants Tirana's Ottoman history explained properly rather than glimpsed from across the square. It also suits anyone with only a short amount of time before moving on.
Included

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Tirana before heading out.
-
Et'hem Bey Mosque 21 min
You see the mosque's painted portico on Skanderbeg Square, and I explain how the frescoes above the entrance survived decades when religious buildings across the country were closed.
-
Ottoman Clock Tower 21 min
The camera moves to the clock tower next door, and I point out how it once served as the tallest structure in the city, long before anything else was built higher.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Tirana: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tavë kosi and Blloku, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
