About this tour

This session follows Toulouse's Renaissance wealth, from the grand courtyard of the Hôtel d'Assézat to the hidden mansion doorways along Rue Saint-Rome and the classical facade of the Capitole itself. You see how one industry's fortune shaped the city's grandest buildings. It traces a single thread of architectural history across three sites.

We spend the most time in the Hôtel d'Assézat courtyard, since it gives the clearest view of the period's style, then move at a relaxed pace along the street. I point out details as we pass rather than stopping at every door, and save the bigger picture for the Capitole at the end. A short list of the buildings covered follows the call.

This suits anyone interested in Renaissance architecture or the history of trade wealth in France. It also works well as a second, deeper session after an introductory walk of the centre.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Toulouse before heading out.

  2. Hôtel d'Assézat 21 min

The camera moves through the courtyard of Toulouse's finest Renaissance mansion, built on a fortune made from the woad dye trade before it collapsed in the sixteenth century. I point out the layered classical columns, a design choice rare outside Italy at the time.

  3. Rue Saint-Rome mansion doorways 21 min

We follow the street past several more of these private houses, their grand entrances now mostly hidden behind ordinary shopfronts. I show you the carved details above certain doors that hint at the wealth once inside.

  4. Place du Capitole facade 21 min

The session ends back at the Capitole, where I point out details in the facade that echo the same classical style seen across the older mansions, tying the whole route together.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Toulouse: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Foie gras and Capitole centre historique, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
