Tromsø's harbour, boat by boat
Highlights
- King crab, landed further north
- A harbour explained boat by boat
- The sea, still central to the town
- Storgata, seen from the water
- Tromsø's working harbour, close up
About this tour
This session walks Tromsø's harbour and fish quay. You see whatever boats are landing that day, from cod to king crab caught further north, and the short stretch linking the harbour to the town centre. Ingeborg explains why the sea remains central to the town even now.
She moves along the quay at an easy pace, describing the catch as it comes into view rather than on a fixed script. Questions about specific fish or the king crab fishery come up regularly, and she answers from her own knowledge of the harbour.
This suits anyone interested in Tromsø's working harbour rather than its museums and viewpoints. It completes Ingeborg's three sessions covering the town at work, at rest and after dark.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Tromsø before heading out.
-
The fish quay 15 min
The camera moves along the harbour's fish quay, and I explain what boats are landing that day, from cod to the king crab now caught further north.
-
Harbour to town 15 min
Looking back toward Storgata from the water, I explain how the harbour and the town centre have always sat this close together, since the sea is the reason the town exists at all.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Tromsø: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cloudberries (molter) and Sentrum, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Oslo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
