The Aura after dark, boat by boat
Highlights
- Boats turned into bars for the night
- A river that looks different after dark
- Former working vessels, explained
- Both banks, lit bridges included
- A summer evening on the water
About this tour
This evening session follows the Aura River as the moored boats turn into bars and restaurants for the night, a tradition that runs through summer. You see the same stretch of water I walk in daylight look completely different after dark. I explain which boats started out as working vessels before this second life.
We move along both banks slowly, since the lit boats and bridges are worth pausing at rather than passing quickly. I take questions about the river's evening life as we go. The session ends on the quieter far bank with the best view back across the water.
This suits anyone who has done a daytime river walk and wants to see the same place after dark. It also works for viewers simply curious about a Finnish summer evening.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Turku before heading out.
-
The floating bars 21 min
You see the boats moored along the river turned into bars and restaurants for the evening, a summer tradition on this stretch of water. I explain how several of them began as actual working vessels.
-
The far bank at night 21 min
The camera crosses to the quieter bank opposite, where I point out how the lit boats and bridges change the same view I show in daylight on other sessions.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Turku: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rye bread and Kerttuli, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Helsinki time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
