About this tour

This session widens Iago's earlier Fonseca stop into a fuller walk through Santiago's university quarter. You see the founding college's Renaissance courtyard, the main university building's neoclassical facade, and the streets around them that fill with students for much of the year. Iago traces how one college grew into an entire district.

The walk moves outward from the courtyard to the main facade and finally into the surrounding streets, with Iago pointing out how the area's shops and cafes serve a very different crowd from the cathedral side of town. He answers questions about student life as the walk continues.

This suits anyone who wants to see a side of Santiago beyond the pilgrim route and the cathedral. It also works well as a longer follow-up to Iago's shorter museum session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santiago de Compostela before heading out.

  2. Fonseca courtyard 17 min

The camera returns to the Renaissance courtyard of the old university's founding college, this time as part of a longer walk through the wider university quarter.

  3. University facade 17 min

A short walk away, the main university building's neoclassical facade faces its own square, and I explain how the institution grew from one college into a full university over centuries.

  4. Student quarter streets 17 min

The narrow streets nearby fill with students for much of the year, and I point out how the area's cafes and bookshops grew up around the university rather than the cathedral.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Santiago de Compostela: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Albariño and San Pedro, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
