About this tour

This session walks the Mercat Central and the streets of Ruzafa with a former market stallholder. You see horchata poured near the cathedral, charcuterie counters and a small rice restaurant serving esgarraet. It ends with the rules of paella, explained by someone who cooked professionally for years.

The guide opens with a sound check, then walks the market and the neighbourhood stop by stop, explaining what she looks for at each counter. Questions come in live, and a short list of what was covered follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who wants Valencia's food explained by someone who worked in it rather than just visited. It also suits cooks who want the real rules of paella rather than a shortcut version.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Valencia before heading out.

  2. Mercat Central 21 min

Inside the Mercat Central, the camera follows a former stallholder through the aisles, stopping where she used to work. She points out how the produce and the customers have both changed since then.

  3. Horchata near the cathedral 21 min

Near the cathedral, the guide shows horchata being poured alongside fartons, the sweet dipping pastry made for it. She explains where the drink actually comes from and how to tell a good batch from a poor one.

  4. Llonganissa and mojama 21 min

At a charcuterie counter, the guide points out llonganissa sausage, blanquet and mojama, salted cured tuna sliced thin. She explains which cuts locals buy for a Sunday lunch.

  5. Ruzafa and paella rules 21 min

In Ruzafa, the guide stops at a small rice restaurant to point out esgarraet on the menu, then explains the rules of a proper paella valenciana, from the rice variety to why it should never be stirred.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Valencia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Paella valenciana and El Carmen, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
