Malvarrosa and the story behind paella
Highlights
- A beach lined with old fishermen's houses
- Rice fields behind Valencia's coastline
- The story behind paella valenciana
- Sea, fields and dish, linked together
- Food history, explained on the sand
About this tour
This session looks at the food history behind Valencia's most famous dish from its coastal edge. You see Malvarrosa's sandy beach and old fishermen's houses, then the flatlands inland where the rice for paella valenciana is grown. It links the sea, the fields and the dish in one short walk.
I start on the beachfront promenade and move to a point looking inland, explaining the ingredients and their origins as we go. Questions are welcome throughout, and afterwards I send a short list of where the ingredients come from.
This suits anyone who wants to understand paella's origins rather than just its name. It also works well before trying the dish itself elsewhere.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
