Central Market Hall's fish counters
Highlights
- A market trading since the 1900s
- The daily catch, named and explained
- A former fishmonger as your guide
- Black Sea fish, up close
- Everyday trade, not a display
About this tour
This session walks Varna's covered market hall, focusing on the fish counters I once worked myself. You see the building's early 20th-century interior and the day's catch explained fish by fish. It stays within this one market rather than the wider old town.
I move slowly between counters, naming what is on display and answering questions on the spot the way I used to for customers. The pace is relaxed, and I send a short note on the fish we saw afterward.
This suits anyone curious about Black Sea seafood and daily market life. It also works well paired with a coastal session for the fuller picture of what ends up on Varna's tables.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide

Market Hall Interior 21 min
The camera moves through the covered hall, and I explain how this building has traded produce and fish daily since the early 20th century.
-
Fish Counters 21 min
You see the day's catch laid out, and I point out each fish by name, something I learned working these counters myself for years.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Varna: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kavarma (meat and vegetables baked in a clay pot) and Old Town Centre, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Sofia time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.
Questions about this tour
What will the session cover?

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
