About this tour

This session stands outside the Gallerie dell'Accademia and works through some of its defining paintings without going into the ticketed rooms, from Bellini's Madonnas to Titian's last Pietà. You see the Accademia Bridge and Campo della Carità while the guide talks through Giorgione's Tempest, Carpaccio's Saint Ursula cycle and the Inquisition story behind Veronese's Feast in the House of Levi. The session stays along the canal and square throughout.

The call opens with a sound check, then the guide moves between the bridge, square and entrance, describing each painting in turn and leaving time for your questions. A short list of the works covered is sent once the call ends.

This suits anyone with a serious interest in Venetian painting, or deciding whether the collection is worth their own visit.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Venice before heading out.

  2. The Accademia Bridge 21 min

From the wooden bridge over the Grand Canal, the guide describes Giovanni Bellini's Madonnas held in the gallery just behind it, paintings that shaped how Venice painted for a generation.

  3. Campo della Carità 21 min

In the square outside the gallery, the guide talks through Giorgione's Tempest, a painting still argued over today, and Carpaccio's Legend of Saint Ursula cycle inside.

  4. Outside the gallery entrance 21 min

The guide tells the story of Veronese's Feast in the House of Levi, originally painted as a Last Supper until the Inquisition objected to its size and cast of characters, forcing a change of title.

  5. Along the Grand Canal 21 min

Looking back along the water toward the gallery, the guide closes with Tintoretto and Titian's final Pietà, painted when both artists knew they were near the end of their working lives.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Venice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Risotto al nero di seppia and San Marco, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
