Marta Busetto

I am from Padua and moved to Venice to study conservation. I spent four years on scaffolding at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and in churches in Dorsoduro, cleaning Tintoretto canvases with cotton swabs a few centimetres at a time. When you have been that close to a painting you notice things: where he changed his mind, where he painted fast because the confraternity was late with the money. That is what my art walks are built on. We visit San Rocco, which has more Tintoretto than anywhere, and the Frari for Titian's Assumption. In Biennale years I run a separate route through the national pavilions and the Arsenale. I also do the Accademia. I love it, but it is tiring, so I keep it to two hours. I like questions, even simple ones. Nobody should feel embarrassed not to know who Carpaccio was, the painter or the beef. Today my sessions are live video walks through Venice; you join from home, and I answer whatever you ask as we go.
