Two towns, one bridge, both riverbanks
Highlights
- Two towns, one bridge between them
- A crossing experienced, not just watched
- Villas built for wealthy summer visitors
- The bridge's full span, from both banks
- Portugalete and Getxo, compared directly
About this tour
This session walks both riverbanks either side of the Vizcaya Bridge, from Portugalete's promenade to the villas of Getxo on the opposite side. You see the bridge's full span from below and from a distance, plus the very different characters of the two towns it connects. Unai widens his shorter bridge session into a fuller riverside walk.
The walk crosses from one bank to the other partway through, using the gondola itself, so you experience the crossing rather than just watching it. Unai points out architectural differences between the two towns as the walk continues.
This suits anyone who enjoyed Unai's shorter bridge session and wants the fuller riverside picture. It also works well for viewers interested in how one structure shaped two very different towns.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bilbao before heading out.
-
Portugalete promenade 17 min
The camera walks the riverside promenade on the Portugalete side, looking across at the bridge's full span and the town's own church tower behind it.
-
Crossing view 17 min
From directly beneath the structure, the camera looks straight up at the gondola passing overhead, giving a sense of scale that a distant photograph misses.
-
Getxo promenade 17 min
On the opposite bank, the Getxo side shows a different character, elegant villas facing the river where wealthy Bilbao families once built summer houses.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Bilbao: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bacalao al pil-pil and Abandoibarra, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

- Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
