About this tour

This session explains what a pintxo actually is, working backwards from a bar counter mid-service to the raw ingredients that go into building one. You see cod, peppers and anchovies before assembly and a full counter once everything is set out. Nekane connects the market she knows so well to what ends up on a plate.

The session moves from ingredients to a finished counter, with Nekane explaining the logic behind a pintxo crawl, moving between bars rather than settling into one. She answers questions about regional variations as they come up.

This suits anyone who wants to understand pintxo culture before trying it themselves. It also pairs well with Nekane's market session for the fuller picture from ingredient to counter.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bilbao before heading out.

  2. What goes into a pintxo 15 min

The camera looks at the raw ingredients a bar kitchen would use to build a pintxo, cod, peppers, anchovies, before they are ever assembled and set out on a counter.

  3. A bar counter mid-service 15 min

Through a bar window, I show a counter laid out with dozens of small dishes and explain how a pintxo crawl works, moving bar to bar rather than staying in one place.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Bilbao: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pintxos and Casco Viejo, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
