The Orange Alternative, explained
Highlights

- Old photographs from the original protests
- The politics behind a playful symbol
- A short, focused history call
About this tour
This short call explains the Orange Alternative, the 1980s protest movement behind Wroclaw's dwarf statues. You see old photographs and posters rather than a live walk, and I explain how absurd, dwarf-themed street actions became a form of protest against the communist authorities. It fills in the politics behind a symbol now seen as playful.
I start with a short introduction to the movement's origins, then go through a handful of photographs from the original protests. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short reading list afterwards.
This suits anyone interested in the late Cold War period or protest movements generally. It also works well alongside the dwarf trail walk for the fuller story.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
