About this tour

This session climbs Zadar's cathedral bell tower, starting outside at the Romanesque front of St Anastasia's Cathedral before the ascent itself. You see the carved rose window at ground level, the narrow stairs on the way up, and then the old town spread out below once we reach the top. It is one of the few places to see the whole peninsula at once.

We start outside with a sound check, then climb stop by stop, pausing partway for breath and questions rather than rushing the stairs. A short list of what is visible from the top follows once we are back down.

It suits anyone who wants Zadar's layout explained from above before or after walking it at street level. It also suits a booking earlier or later in the day, when the light across the rooftops is at its best.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Zadar before heading out.

  2. Cathedral exterior 17 min

The camera looks up at the Romanesque front of St Anastasia's Cathedral, and I point out the carved rose window above the main door.

  3. The climb up 17 min

We climb the narrow stairs inside the bell tower, and I explain what each level of the tower was originally used for.

  4. The view from the top 17 min

At the top I turn the camera slowly across the old town rooftops, the harbour and the walls below.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Zadar: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Crni rižot (black risotto) and Poluotok, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
