Mirogoj's arcades and the dome at their centre
Highlights
- One architect's vision across decades
- Memorial sculpture by leading Croatian artists
- A domed pavilion rewarding a closer look
- Arcades running the length of the cemetery wall
- A calmer, more reflective side of the city
About this tour
This session moves through Mirogoj's arcades, its central domed pavilion and a section known for its sculpture, tracing the vision of one architect across decades of work. You see the scale of the covered arcades, the detail in the dome, and memorials shaped by some of the country's leading sculptors. It stays within the cemetery grounds throughout.
I move slowly and quietly between the three stops, pause longer wherever the stonework rewards it, and take questions in a low voice out of respect for the setting.
This suits anyone with an interest in architecture, sculpture or cemetery design specifically. It also suits viewers looking for a calmer, more reflective session than a typical city walk.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Zagreb before heading out.
-
Mirogoj Entrance Arcade 17 min
You see the long covered arcade running along the cemetery's outer wall, and I explain how one architect designed almost the entire site over decades of work.
-
The Central Dome 17 min
The camera reaches the domed pavilion at the centre, and I point out details in the stonework that reward a much closer look than most visitors give it.
-
A Sculpted Section 17 min
We finish among a section of more elaborate memorial sculpture, and I describe how families commissioned work from some of the country's best known sculptors.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Zagreb: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Croatian wine and Upper Town, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
