About this tour

This walk climbs through forest above Mtskheta to Zedazeni Monastery, founded by one of the thirteen Syrian fathers who brought monastic life to Georgia. You follow a shaded ridge track, reach the small stone monastery, then continue to a clearing with the whole valley laid out below. It is the quietest and greenest of the sessions based in Mtskheta.

We keep a steady pace on the climb since the signal can drop under the trees, so I pause often to check the connection and answer questions. The monastery itself gets the most time, and I save the valley view for last.

It suits anyone who wants a forest walk alongside the history, and travellers curious about the founders of Georgian monasticism.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Mtskheta before heading out.

  2. Forest track to Zedazeni 21 min

The camera follows a shaded forest track up the ridge above Mtskheta, and I point out where wild boar tracks cross the path in the mud.

  3. Zedazeni Monastery courtyard 21 min

You see the small stone monastery founded by St John of Zedazeni, one of the thirteen Syrian fathers who brought monasticism to Georgia in the sixth century.

  4. Ridge viewpoint over the valley 21 min

From a clearing past the monastery the whole Mtkvari valley and Mtskheta's rivers spread out below, and I name what is visible in each direction.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Mtskheta: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Churchkhela and Old Mtskheta, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Tbilisi time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

    Great tour, small hiccups

Very good overall. The route was lovely, a little more time at the last stop would have been perfect.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
