History was my subject at university, and ruins interest me more than finished buildings, since you can see how they were actually put together once the plaster has gone. On camera I hold on the fallen sections longer than most guides would, because that is usually where the real construction shows. I plan sessions for overcast days on purpose, since flat light shows old stone better than direct sun does. Viewers are often surprised how much can be worked out from a wall that barely stands anymore.
