About Sofia

I teach history at the secondary school in Lagos and guide at weekends and during the long summer holidays. I have done this for fifteen years. Lagos is small, but it sits on a difficult chapter of Portuguese history. Henry the Navigator based himself nearby, the caravels that first reached the West African coast sailed from this bay, and in 1444 the first recorded sale of enslaved Africans in Europe took place in the square that is now Praça do Infante. I think visitors should hear that story told plainly, alongside the churches, the walls and the fort. I also teach a cataplana cooking morning with my aunt, who ran a restaurant on Rua da Barroca for thirty years and still refuses to measure anything. I speak Portuguese, English and French. I now guide live on video from Lagos, with my phone as the camera and time for your questions all the way through.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
