I trained as a sacristan's assistant before I ever thought about guiding, so the cathedral and the chapel beside it were part of my working life long before they became my subject on camera. I try to explain the Capela dos Ossos plainly, as a monument built to make people think rather than to shock them, and I keep the camera slow and steady out of respect for the space. Up in the cathedral towers I point out the view across the plains rather than dwelling on the climb. Eleven years in, I still choose my words carefully in that chapel.
